School Kitchens FundingIn addition higher profile campaigns such as Building Schools for the Future and the Primary Capital Programme, which are providing Local Authorities with capital which will be invested in schools, a number of other funding routes for schools also exist. A selection of these are illustrated in more detail below:
Locally Controlled Voluntary Aided Capital Programme
Funding given for aided schools on the number of aided places in each local authority which is awarded annually by the Department for Education and Skills.
Action: Schools submit a bid for new work to their Diocese. This is then considered by Local Authority and submitted to DSCF for approval.
Modernisation Programme
A funding stream to facilitate support to schools that do not receive BSF or PCP funding until later waves. The government has recently bought forward £235m into 2009/10 for school building modernisation.

School Lunch Grant
The School Lunch Grant provides £80m per year until 2011 and can be used towards the specification of smaller items of catering equipment. See our information section for more information.

Regional Development Agency Single Budget Programme
Schools can contact their regional development agency as an upgrade to school kitchens may fall within the criteria for funding within the context of Regional Economic Strategy and Corporate Plans.

Devolved Capital Funding
All maintained schools receive an annual allocation of Devolved Schools Capital, which can be used towards the specification of new kitchens or equipment. Devolved Schools Capital is allocated to schools using a national formula on a per school, per pupil basis.
Action: Funding in place.
Local Authority Funding for Schools
All local authorities are allocated a substantial amount of capital funding which can be used for local priorities. All schools can approach their LA for funding. Until 2010/11, local authority funding includes possible access to the targeted fund for kitchens.

Learning Skills Council
The Learning Skills Council are providing funding for the redevelopment of further education facilities in England.
